The Philippines has a total land area of 86 million hectares, wherein half of the country is hilly and categorized as a Forest Zone and part of the Public Domain. As of 2024, the Philippines has a population of 117 million people. There are 112 ethnolinguistic groups in the country, comprising nearly 15% of the total population.

The Indigenous People (IP) represent nearly 15% of the country’s population. They are among the country’s poorest and most disadvantaged social groups. Illiteracy, unemployment, and incidence of poverty are much higher among them than the rest of the population. Additionally, IP settlements are remote, without access to essential services, and are characterized by a high incidence of morbidity, mortality, and malnutrition.

It is the advocacy and the overall mission of the World United Tribal (WUT) Federation to elevate the social and economic status while promoting and recognizing the rights of the Indigenous Peoples (IP) through the Indigenous People's Rights Act of 1997 (IPRA Law), officially designated as Republic Act of the Philippines No. 8371. It is committed to serving its members or beneficiaries through the implementation of sustainable social-economic projects. WUT has in its database a total of two million active members nationwide, which are broken down into the following tribal groups:

  • 21 Tribal Parliament Ministers

  • 17 Regional Tribal Directors

  • 81 Provincial Tribal Governors

  • 1,561 Tribal Municipal Mayors

  • 43,000 Balangay Chieftains

  • 200 International Tribal Ambassadors

WUT targets to implement humanitarian and developmental projects throughout the Philippine Archipelago, encompassing Tribal Lands that are within the Ancestral Domains, assigned or conveyed to the WUT and WUT beneficiaries from Region 1 to 17 of the Philippines.
